Welding of wood - without additives!    

In 2008, over 80 companies were candidates for the Innovation Prize offered by the Göttingen administrative district. The winners were announced on December 2, 2008. Fischer Kunststoffschweißtechnik GmbH, Berkatal, took second place in the "Products" category. The company builds machines and tools for welding, riveting, forming and embedding for production and laboratories as well as for testing and development.
Since 2007, Fischer Kunststoffschweißtechnik GmbH has been ensuring high-quality joints not only for plastics and high-performance GFRP/CFRP materials but also for wood joints without any glue or other additives whatsoever. The ecological process uses a "binding agent" which is already present in the wood and is decomposed and activated under pressure by the friction process. Investigations showed that the viscous mass which is formed from various wood components is capable of acting like an adhesive bonding layer. lt is assumed that the wood elements "bonded" with each other are additionally joined by the formation of molecular forces. The oscillation of the wood friction welding machine can be switched over between linear and circular oscillation. Two wood elements can be joined with each other in just a few seconds. Surface strengths which are higher than those of nailed and screwed joints are obtained in this respect.
